Parish Life

Dear Parishioners and Friends,

Today marks the beginning of Holy Week, the most sacred time in the Catholic liturgical year. It commemorates Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, where crowds welcomed Him with palm branches, shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” (Matthew 21:9). This joyful moment, however, is paired with the reading of the Passion narrative, reminding us that Jesus’ journey leads to the Cross.

The blessing and distribution of palms symbolize our participation in this event, as we honor Christ as our King and Savior. Yet, the liturgy quickly shifts to the somber recounting of His suffering and death. This duality reflects the Christian journey: we celebrate Christ’s kingship while embracing the sacrifices required to follow Him.

This feast day invites us to reflect on the depth of God’s love. Jesus entered Jerusalem not as a conquering warrior but as a humble servant, willing to lay down His life for our salvation. The Passion narrative challenges us to examine our own lives—how do we respond to Christ’s sacrifice? Do we welcome Him with joy but falter in times of trial?

As we enter Holy Week, let us accompany Jesus once again through his suffering, death, and resurrection. May the palms we receive remind us to live with faith and courage, embracing both the joys and crosses of discipleship. And let us deepen our commitment to Christ as we make final preparations for the glory of Easter.

In Christ,

Fr. Freitag

Pastor for the Northwest Seattle Catholic

Grief Support Ministry

St. Anne Parish is entering the third year of providing grief support services to the families of our parish. The members of the ministry provide spiritual and emotional support to individuals and families experiencing the loss of a loved one. We are a group of ten volunteers who have received training to provide comfort and resources to our parishioners in navigating through their individual healing journey. We meet on a monthly basis to share resources and to encourage and support one another in our ministry. Our model includes assigning a volunteer to work with the bereaved parishioner offering support for a period of one year. Often these relationships develop into lasting friendships.

If you are a St. Anne parishioner and are interested in joining our group or you are a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima or Sacred Heart of Jesus and are interested in establishing a Grief Ministry in your parish, please contact either Marty Hillary (919-606-6999) or Jane Fleming (206-930-0460). We will be happy to provide you with training and assistance in getting started.

St. Vincent de Paul Stuff the Truck

Thank You for Stuffing the Truck at Our Lady of Fatima!

Over 45 donors contributed their gently used items to make last Sunday’s event a big success. The truck returned to the St. Vincent de Paul warehouse filled with great merchandise to restock the thrift stores shelves. Sales help fund programs operated by the Seattle-King County Council of St. Vincent de Paul.

Help in a Time of Loss: A retired neighbor and her adult daughter recently relocated to Seattle for specialized medical treatments for her husband, who has since passed away. When her daughter’s hours were reduced at work, she requested rental assistance to pay off her balance before moving to a more affordable apartment. Your generous donations allowed us to help financially and spend time with a widow grieving in an unfamiliar city.

Your continued prayers and financial support are much appreciated. If you’d like to make a monetary donation, please drop off a check/envelope labeled for “SVdP” at the parish office of Our Lady of Fatima or St. Anne, use the designated 2nd collection envelope, or make a one-time or recurring donation online:

In anticipation of World Earth Day, celebrated at the end of April, our St. Anne parish will host a Campus Clean-up event. This is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and care for God’s creation. On Saturday, April 12th, we will gather at the church entrance at 9:00 AM and work together until 12:00 PM. Let us honor the beauty of the Earth that God has entrusted to us and show our gratitude through our efforts. This is the second time we have this annual event, and it has a big impact on the way our grounds look! We look forward to seeing you there.
